IELTS Writing Band 7
Band 7 is the most common target — and the most common ceiling. Most candidates plateau at 6 because of one or two specific criteria, not because their English is weak overall.
Task Response at band 7
You address all parts of the question and present a clear position throughout. Ideas are extended and supported rather than merely listed. This is usually the first criterion to fix.
Coherence & Cohesion at band 7
Information is logically organised with clear progression. The trap is overusing mechanical linkers — band 7 rewards connections that follow from the argument, not a memorised list.
Lexical Resource at band 7
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, with occasional errors in word choice. Accuracy matters more than exotic words.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy at band 7
You use a variety of complex structures with good control. Frequent basic errors keep you at 6 even if your ideas are strong, so an error audit pays off fast.
