Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the scoring?+
We calibrate our model against a dataset of 31 examiner-marked essays, and we publish the full results on our calibration page. Our target is mean absolute error ≤ 0.5 bands across all four criteria. For context, two human examiners typically agree within ±0.5 bands about 70–80% of the time.
Can it mark Task 1 (charts, graphs, letters)?+
Yes — select Task 1 in the checker and paste the chart description or letter prompt along with your response. The scoring rubric adjusts for Task 1 criteria like task achievement and tone.
Is my essay stored or shared?+
No. We don't store your essay text on our servers beyond the time needed to score it. Your band history is saved locally in your browser if you want to track progress — you control it.
How many free checks do I get?+
3 free checks, no credit card required. After that, Pro is $19.9/month for unlimited checks, band-improvement tracking, and early access to the speaking module.
Can I cancel my subscription easily?+
Yes — cancel in one click from your account. No phone calls, no emails, no 'are you sure' funnels. We think earning your renewal every month is the right way to do business.
Is this official IELTS practice material?+
This is an independent tool and is not affiliated with the British Council, IDP, or Cambridge English. Our rubric is based on the publicly available band descriptors.
